The music, fashion and art collective Acid Casuals release their inaugural album on JANUARY 30th, 2006. In a move typically ad hoc, Acid Casuals follow their sometime back Novamute 12” release with a magical record, deservedly titled Omni, on Placid Casual. The production of a record of this calibre is even more impressive given the vast variety of Acid Casuals’ other creative projects. Their travels to Tokyo were integral to the launch of their fashion label, New York saw them leap into video production and all inspired their art space café bar, Capsule. “Omni came about from a period of mental, physical and emotional exhaustion around Christmas 2004. Jazz Vice came up with an album title ‘too tired to yawn like man’ and after 3 weeks we woke up in Pleasure Foxx studios and created what is now a 360* sonic journey.” Says AC writer and producer Kev Tame. Cian Ciaran, the other half of the AC writing and producing team adds “Most of these tracks have been accumulating for years on sequencers, tape machines and computers. Finally we managed to stay in the same room for more than a week and put together something resembling a debut album (whatever that is) But don’t expect this to be a sign of things to come, god knows what’s going to be next, its all a reaction to emotions and how we’re getting on on the golf course.” Following on from the jacking twelve for Novamute and an early mix of Wa Da Da (championed by Radio 1’s Rob da Bank and Huw Stevens) on Secret Agent Records these ten tracks are a sort of slowed-down acid burner of the more melodic kind. Beats fall forward and behind the aural line. Rolling and languorously rocking, the wave is always swelling, expanding to fill the musical canvas and superimposing a layered tempo of resistance and release. “Listen to the layers, then turn it up and listen again, and again…” Cian says of the album “…we don’t care cos it works and is but the language of some musical fairy genii” Acid Casuals have always operated an open door policy, welcoming an eclectic range of contributing musicians and Omni is no exception. But says Kev, it sometimes works the other way, “We invited GLC to contribute to the phat beat bolshevic ‘Long Time No See’ but in an ironic twist ended up remixing their single ‘Your Missus is a Nutter’.” Omni is an album that has the potential to culturally impact a generation. “Its essential that what we do is the best that we can do at that time, once it’s done and out, we’re ready to go again on the next Acid Casuals project.” Acid Casuals have also released a limited edition 12 vinyl BOWL ME OVER.
